The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development estimates that between 2001 and 2007, fake brands doubled in value to about $250 billion. By 2008, the market in the U.S. alone was thought to be about $200 billion annually. In January 2008, the New York Times reported that about 7% of the world’s goods were estimated to be counterfeit.
